FIELD GUIDE 31 / 33
Printer assignments with Claude and Slack
Post a print load sheet, assign printers in Slack, and let Claude read the submitted assignments.
Product guide 4 sections
Enable it for a team
Print workflow is off by default and does not change other teams. If Print workflow says setup is unavailable, the service administrator must finish database setup first.
- 01A team owner or admin opens the team's menu → Print workflow.
- 02Choose the shop Slack channel and enable Print workflow. Paste its channel ID or channel link. The Slackalendar bot must already be a member of that channel.
- 03Add printer numbers and models, or paste a CSV beginning with number, model. Keep printer numbers exact: A1-8 and A1-08 are different printers. Mark unavailable printers inactive.
- 04Reconnect Claude if its existing approval lacks Print workflow. On Slackalendar's access-review page, select the team and approve Print workflow. Leave task-status changes off unless you also want status updates.
Keep in mind
An existing read-only approval never silently gains write access. Shop staff must have a linked Slack identity, active membership in this Slackalendar team and company, and membership in the selected shop Slack channel.

Post and assign a load sheet
- 01Ask Claude to post a print load sheet for the task, including the quantity label, filament totals, and each run's stable run ID, job name, run label and colors.
- 02The shop channel receives one load sheet with a task link and Assign Printers button. Reposting for the same task updates that message rather than creating another sheet.
- 03In Slack, choose Assign Printers. Search by the exact printer number for each run. Only active printers from that team can be selected; the same printer can be used on several runs.
- 04For long sheets, use Next and Back. Your choices are retained. On the last page, check I've loaded these colors on the printers selected, then Submit.
- 05The assignments are saved as a new version and added to task history. The original thread receives Printers received. Claude is checking them. Submitting does not change the task status.
Keep in mind
Reopen Assign Printers to edit the latest choices. Earlier versions remain saved. If another person submits or the load sheet changes while your form is open, reopen it before trying again.

What the connection can do
- post_print_load_sheet posts or updates the task's load sheet in the team's shop channel.
- get_print_assignments reads the saved runs, latest assignment version, submitter, submission time and exact selected printer numbers.
- list_printers reads that team's printer catalog, including models and active state. Models are not shown in the Slack printer selector.
- post_task_thread_reply posts a plain-text reply to the saved load-sheet thread.
- list_print_events reads unhandled assignment submissions and task-status changes in order; ack_print_event marks an event handled after Claude processes it.
Keep in mind
Print tools appear only when an approved team has the workflow enabled. Read tools need read access; posting and acknowledging need Print workflow. Claude cannot edit printer catalogs, team settings or submitted assignments. No automatic polling service or outgoing webhook is started; a compatible client or your own runner must poll and handle events.

Troubleshooting
- No tools: check that the selected team has Print workflow enabled, your connection includes it, and the client has refreshed its tools. Reconnect if the requested Print workflow permission was not available in the old approval.
- No printers: a team admin must add active printers. Search by number; model names and similar-looking numbers are not substituted.
- Claude shows missing load-sheet fields or sends lists as text: refresh the connector's tools or reconnect after the app update. Filament totals and runs must be arrays, not text; grams must be a number.
- Cannot open or submit: check the Slack account's linked identity, team and company memberships, shop-channel membership, and that the task is still in that enabled team.
- A printer changed or a form became stale: reopen the form and review the selections again. Confirmation is required for each new submission.
- A pending delivery has no confirmed Slack receipt: stop and ask an administrator to reconcile the original message. Retrying will not create a duplicate sheet.
