FIELD GUIDE 03 / 15
Create teams and manage members
Use teams to keep tasks, members, Slack channels, and status workflows organized.
Product guide 4 sections
Create a team
- 01Select your company with the sidebar organization selector. You need active company membership before team work. Open Teams and choose New Team.
- 02Enter a team name and, if useful, a description.
- 03Choose Create Team. The creator becomes the team owner.
Add or invite people
- 01Open the team and use Invite to send an invitation by email, or Add Member to select an available person.
- 02A person invited by email opens the invitation link and signs in or creates an account with that email address.
- 03Team owners can invite with an owner role where offered and transfer team ownership to an existing active member. Members can invite people as members.
- 04With Slack connected, Slackalendar also sends a direct-message invitation when the recipient can be found in that workspace. People with a linked Slackalendar account can Accept or Decline right in the DM. Others receive a secure link to sign in with the invited email and review the invitation.
- 05DM invitations expire with the email invitation after 7 days. Accepting does not authorize a payment: if a paid seat is needed, a billing administrator must resolve it first and the invitation stays pending.
- 06Existing Slack installations may need to reconnect to grant users:read.email for looking up recipients who have not linked their accounts. If the person is not in the connected workspace, use the email invitation. Slack processing must be enabled for DMs and button replies.
Keep in mind
Team owners can manage team settings and membership. Members can collaborate on the team's tasks but do not have the owner-only settings controls.

Edit or remove a team
A team owner opens the team management menu to edit its name or description, manage task statuses, link a Slack channel, or delete the team. Deleting a team permanently deletes its team data, so confirm the team name before proceeding. This is not company deletion or subscription cancellation.
Ownership and access problems
- 01Open the team's Members area to review roles. A team owner can use Transfer ownership beside an eligible member; review its confirmation carefully.
- 02Choose an existing active teammate for an ownership transfer. Company ownership and billing permission do not transfer with team ownership.
- 03Before removing a person, review their assignments and reassign work as needed. Leaving or losing membership removes access; keeping an old task link does not preserve it.
- 04If the only owner cannot sign in, use Support to describe the problem without sharing credentials. There is no documented automatic owner-recovery bypass.
Keep in mind
Company owners, company admins, billing administrators and team owners are different roles. A team owner does not gain financial access; a Slack workspace administrator does not automatically become a Slackalendar owner.
